If your rocks will be living outside make sure to use patio paint or outdoor friendly paint.
A regular acrylic will work if you are planning to keep the rock inside though.
Even though some paints say they are safe for indoor and outdoor use like the folkart 3d paint pictured above they still need sealer in order to have their best performance when placed outside.
It is designed to also work well with the martha stewart marbling medium so if you want to make marbled rocks this is another great multi use paint to keep in your paint stash.
Plaid also carries a folkart outdoor paint and an apple barrel multisurface paint that i love.
Primer makes the paint really stick and you won t need as many layers of paint to achieve nice strong colors.
